Blackdown Bronze Turkeys

At Beech Hayes we rear our own turkeys for the Christmas market.  We specialise in Bronze turkeys as we feel that these more traditional, slower growing birds have a superior quality of flavour and carcass conformation.

The birds come to us as day old chicks and are reared on a combination of turkey feed and oats to help develop the taste and texture our customers require. 

When the day comes the birds are all slaughtered on the farm so no stress is involved in transporting them to a processing unit and the birds are hand plucked by our team.  The birds are then hung for atleast a week and then the drawing process is undertaken before the birds are ready for the sale.  It can be a rather hectic time but we manage to get the birds to the customers just in time for Christmas dinner!

Nothing from these birds is wasted, even the feathers are sold to a company making jewellery and fascinators.
