Lambing & Small scale farming
Come and join us on our beautiful Blackdown Hills farm where we will be lambing our sheep outdoors (weather permitting). Learn about the pleasures and pitfalls of keeping sheep. One day will be devoted to lambing – you will learn how to recognise signs of imminent lambing and hopefully see lambs being born (Mother Nature permitting of course!). You will learn what to look for to assess whether the sheep are lambing normally or whether they may need some assistance and we will also have ewegenie (our artificial ewe) on hand so that you can practise correcting malpresentations. A basic “lambing shopping list” will be discussed and the day can be tailored to your needs. The second day will be an introduction to keeping a wider range of farm animals including beef cattle, pigs, laying hens, ducks, geese, table chickens and christmas turkeys. Why not join us for a wonderful Easter farm experience where you can learn and enjoy at the same time! The course will run from 10am til 4pm, lunch and refreshments will be provided. For more details or to book please email beechhayes@aol.com Dates for this course are as follows: 22nd & 23rd April 2011 24th & 25th April 2011
